The Kaiser Passages of Malibu

After spending several years working in the field of addiction and helping hundreds in recovery, I, David Kaiser, often wondered what made Malibu the capital for addiction treatment facilities. At last count, there are approximately 32 residential treatment facilities in Malibu, California. That is more per capita that any other city in the country. And, this does not include outpatient programs, and sober livings. Although the city of Malibu isn’t an ardent supporter of this industry, it is in fact a boom to the local economy.

Why do people come from all over the world to seek treatment for addiction and treatable psychological issues in Malibu? Is it the celebrity allure? The sun-drenched beaches? The opulent views of the Pacific Ocean? Or, is it truly some of the best treatment in all the world? It is my experience that it is all of the above. Why else would anyone pay the prices that most Malibu rehabs command, and indeed, get?

The celebrity allure, the sun-drenched beaches, and opulent views of the Pacific, definitely seduce one to enter a treatment facility in Malibu, CA. In fact, many find the beauty to be very therapeutic, and it is! Wouldn’t you rather heal in an environment with these type of surroundings? I know I would! But, is it the best clinical treatment in the world? I know from my first hand experience and observation, the clinicians in Malibu are indeed, some of the finest in the world. These experienced clinicians and therapists know addiction and have a great sense in getting to the underlying issues that may have caused the addiction in the first place. There true commitment and care for the clients is evident and many maintain relationships for many years, thereafter. In fact, many of their clients end of moving to Malibu after treatment because of a Malibu’s large population of those in recovery. Moreover, the latest statistic I received is that 10% of Malibu’s population is in recovery from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Malibu and their treatment centers have created a new model for addiction recovery centers. One that is based on healing, not punishment, with surroundings that are comfortable and relaxing. Kind of like the Mayo Clinic meets Canyon Ranch. And, there are some Malibu treatment centers that have made it affordable for those of modest means to enter their Malibu facility.
